About StampWorth
StampWorth is a phone app and a set of guides for one question: what is this stamp, or this collection, worth for what you are about to do with it — sell it, insure it, or settle an inheritance.
StampWorth gives an AI estimate of a stamp’s market-value range, not an appraisal. Use it to decide what deserves a closer look, then check the number against sold prices or a qualified expert before money changes hands.
What StampWorth is
StampWorth has two parts.
- The app, for iPhone and Android. You photograph a stamp; it identifies the issue, suggests its catalogue numbers, grades its condition and rarity, and gives an estimated value range in your own currency. Your collection is kept on your phone.
- This website, with guides on the parts of stamp value that decide a real outcome: what condition faults do to the price, where and how to sell, and how a value for insurance or an estate differs from what a dealer will pay.
The site leans towards condition, selling and valuation for a purpose because that is where most people with a box of stamps get stuck. Identifying a stamp is the easy part; knowing what number to trust, and for what, is harder.
What the app does, and what it does not do
What it does:
- Identifies a stamp from one photo and shows how confident the match is.
- Suggests numbers in the Scott, Michel, Stanley Gibbons and Yvert & Tellier catalogues, so you can check the result in the catalogue you or your dealer use.
- Labels condition on a five-step scale (mint, fine, good, fair, poor) with short notes, and rarity on a six-step scale from common to extremely rare.
- Gives an AI estimate of the market-value range, with notes on what drives it.
- Saves each stamp to a collection on your device with a running total, and lets you add stamps by hand for free.
- With Pro: scans a whole album page at once, and shows current eBay listings for the stamp. Those are asking prices on live listings, not sold prices.
What it does not do:
- It does not look up sold prices or auction results, and it does not read from a licensed catalogue database. The catalogue numbers are suggestions to verify.
- It does not authenticate a stamp, detect every repair or forgery, or issue a certificate.
- It does not buy, sell or broker stamps, and it is not an appraisal you can hand to an insurer or a court.
The full method, with its limits, is on how StampWorth estimates value.
What it costs
StampWorth is free to download: 3 identifications a day with no account, and the first valuation on a new install shows its full value. Logging stamps by hand is free. StampWorth Pro removes the daily limit, shows every value estimate, and adds album-page scanning and current eBay listings. Weekly, monthly and yearly plans are sold through the App Store and Google Play, which show the price in your currency before you confirm.
Who makes it
StampWorth is made by Ichime, the developer listed for the app on the App Store and Google Play. The guides are published under the byline “StampWorth editorial”. We do not put a named philatelist or appraiser on them, because none signs them off, and we would rather say so than invent one.
StampWorth is not a dealer, an auction house or a catalogue publisher. The app earns money from Pro subscriptions; neither the app nor this site shows ads, and the guides carry no affiliate links.
How the guides are written
Most guides on the blog are drafted with an AI writing model, under a fixed brief: give the honest answer first, say plainly that most stamps are worth little, put condition before age, and never treat catalogue value as a resale price. Before a draft is published, automated checks reject it if it:
- states a currency amount, a print run, an auction result, or the name of an expert or auction house that is not on a short list of checked facts;
- links anywhere except other guides on this site;
- repeats too much of an existing guide.
Hub pages such as condition faults and selling stamps, the home pages and this page are written and edited directly. They summarise only what the linked guides already say. Each page shows the date it was last updated.
That process keeps out invented prices and invented authorities. It does not replace an expert who has your stamp in hand, which is why the guides send you to sold prices, catalogues and expertising bodies for any decision that matters.
Corrections and contact
If a guide is wrong, out of date or unclear, email support@ichime.dev with the page address and what should change. We correct or retire pages rather than leave a known error up. Inside the app, every result has a “Report a problem with this result” link that opens an email with the stamp’s name already filled in.
For what happens to the photos you scan, see the privacy policy. For billing and app questions, see support.
Check a stamp before you decide
StampWorth identifies the stamp from a photo, grades its condition, suggests its catalogue numbers and gives an AI estimate of its market-value range — a starting point, not a sale price. Free to download on iPhone and Android: 3 identifications a day, and your first valuation shows its full value; Pro shows every value.
